Tribute to Doris Day for the Cabaret Series
Premium $35 / VIP $45

The New York Times called Karen Oberlin’s hit tribute to the great Doris Day “widely admired” and called her “an inheritor of Doris Day’s impeccable pop style,” continuing on to say “(Oberlin’s) beautifully shaped reading in the classic pop tradition was one that Ms. Day in her prime might well have envied.”

Over the years, she has performed this award-winning show far and wide, including locales such as New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Nebraska, Provincetown and Palm Beach, to name more than a few among many, including performing the show as part of Doris Day’s final, 97th Official Birthday Celebration at her hotel in Carmel By the Sea.

“YOU HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SOUND AND TONE SO I AM VERY FLATTERED THAT YOU HAVE ENJOYED MY WORK. YOU BROUGHT ME TO TEARS.” – DORIS DAY

In this exciting, fun-filled show, you will hear her hit songs such as “Sentimental Journey,” “Que Sera Sera” and “It’s Magic,” along with the title song and numerous other beloved tunes, but also rare gems that Ms. Oberlin has unearthed in her research. Ms. Oberlin delves deeply into the life and music of this fascinating and important cultural phenomenon from having a baby as a teenager, touring with a big band, to her tumultuous marriages and becoming the highest-paid woman in Hollywood history, all while recording sensational songs throughout her varied career.

Ms. Oberlin has been the recipient of the New York Nightlife Award for Jazz Vocalist of the Year and every major cabaret award, including the Mabel Mercer Foundation’s Donald F. Smith Award for Excellence in Cabaret (presented to her at Jazz at Lincoln Center) and an Honorary Doctorate in Music for her performance work. She is a recording artist with four CDs, including “Secret Love: The Music of Doris Day,” and although she doesn’t imitate Ms. Day, Oberlin has often been compared to her in her work as a vocalist, and she couldn’t be happier.

Doris Day is one of our greatest artists, and although she is truly American, like apple pie and jazz, she reaches the hearts and minds of people all over the world,” says Oberlin.
