The Everly Brothers

Like most people in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, Ike Everly and his brothers toiled in the coal mines, but in their little free time, they played music together, on fiddles, mandolins and guitars, singing at the top of their challenged lungs. When Ike and Margaret’s sons came along, first Don and then Phil, they grew up surrounded by the family jam sessions, and by the age of 8 and 6, they were singing with their parents on live radio in rural Iowa, then Tennessee. Their guitar skills grew as they became teenagers and when their recording of “Bye Bye Love” soared to the top of the country and pop charts.

This powerful program blends the story of The Everly Brothers’ lives, illustrated with dramatic slides, with a live performance of his songs by Joan Friedenberg and Bill Bowen, who sing professionally as the PinkSlip Duo. The Everly Brothers penned iconic songs like “Bye Bye Love,” “Wake Up Little Susie,” and “All I Have to Do Is Dream,” and their lyrics will be projected on a screen and the audience invited to sing along. PinkSlip’s music combines with gripping photography and intellectually stimulating commentary for a unique and unforgettable experience.
